“Living in a diverse city doesn’t necessarily mean that you interact with a diverse population — The Jar makes that possible.” ~Courtland Townes III, Jar Convener
“Joy is inherent to The Jar. Come to a room that is unlike any other in Boston. There’s this community that’s growing and building every day, the art and artists who come through just continue to get more fabulous, what are you waiting for? It’s time!” ~Gina Christo, Jar Convener
CONVENE
The Jar utilizes a Convener Model which invites you to actively build a diverse and vibrant community. As a Convener, you’ll purchase a Jar of tickets for $60 – that’s 6 tickets at $10 each. You’ll then invite:
- Your partner or other close friend
- 2 people you would normally experience culture with
- 2 people you wouldn’t normally experience culture with – people who may not look like you, pray like you, love like you, earn like you, etc. While these can be people you know – like an acquaintance, neighbor, or colleague – they are most importantly people you’d like to know better.
Together, the six of you gather to experience The Jar:
- 7:00PM Doors & Open Bar
- 7:30PM Adobo Fish Sauce
- 8:30PM Social Mixer & Dessert
ADOBO-FISH-SAUCE
A Puerto Rican and a Cambodian walk into a kitchen. The kitchen is your heart. The food is made with food. The food is sometimes poems. Either way you are fed.
Adobo-Fish-Sauce is an active choice to celebrate in the face of bitterness. It is responding to “Go back to where you come from!” by bringing where they are from right to you. The duo fuses spoken word, cooking, intentionality, vulnerability, and joy to create a one-of-a-kind experience that can’t be found in any kitchen or open mic.
Adobo-Fish-Sauce is an artist project fusing live cooking and spoken word poetry to invite the audience into an enhanced storytelling experience. New England-based poets Anthony Febo and Ricky Orng invite the audience to be active creators in the experience by engaging them in conversations over food. This performance will include finger foods, live cooking, and delicious smells.
