The Darkness Behind
SHOW DESCRIPTION: The Darkness Behind is a solo multimedia performance that explores the many meanings behind the title: surviving darkness, leaving darkness behind, and the ongoing tension between memory and freedom. Ameen’s musical journey during the ISIS occupation of his hometown in Iraq, Mosul, 2014-2017, and the musical chapters post that period.
Using violin, voice, live looping, and electronic textures, the performance combines cinematic music, experimental sound, and personal storytelling that creates an immersive live experience.
This work follows performances at venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and One World Trade Center.
ARTIST BIO: Award-winning Iraqi composer, performer, and multidisciplinary artist, born In Baghdad 1989. Ameen’s work across film, theater, and contemporary music, and he is internationally active collaborator with ensembles and institutions in the U.S., Middle, East, and Europe.
