The Cloud Collector

The Cloud Collector is a new trans fantasy rock musical that moves between real and imagined worlds, blending songs, instrumental interludes, and narration with orchestration and foley.

June Beiser is a writer, visual artist, and musician based in Somerville, MA.
Since 2020, she has been developing a project called The Cloud Collector, which is rooted in her lived experience as a trans person and has iterated from illustrations and poetry into a vibrant sonic world that currently takes the form of a musical. In 2023, June discovered her transness and created a myth in order to understand her experience: a boy carries a purple box up a mountain each day to release a girl into the sky to collect the clouds; however, the boy is not allowed to look at her; one day, however, he decides to turn around and everything changes… This myth became the center of her piece and allowed June to ground herself in a rapidly-moving experience of self-transformation. The myth also allowed June to begin exploring how fragments of world-building, characters, and plot that had been created separately in other mediums were actually all connected.

Beginning in January 2025, June made a concerted effort to turn The Cloud Collector into a musical, and the result is an amalgamation of work that has been kept in motion through constant transformation. In January 2026, the show was produced through grassroots community effort, as June worked with a team of musicians, actors, and businesses who generously offered their time and resources to produce a sold-out community event at the Rockwell Theater in Davis Square.
