DESCRIPTION:The Cloud Collector\nPresented by the Boston Fringe Festival\nThe Cloud Collector is a new trans fantasy rock musical that moves between real and imagined worlds\, blending songs\, instrumental interludes\, and narration with orchestration and foley. \nJune Beiser is a writer\, visual artist\, and musician based in Somerville\, MA. \nSince 2020\, she has been developing a project called The Cloud Collector\, which is rooted in her lived experience as a trans person and has iterated from illustrations and poetry into a vibrant sonic world that currently takes the form of a musical. In 2023\, June discovered her transness and began creating this show as a way of processing her experience. \nBeginning in January 2025\, June made a concerted effort to turn The Cloud Collector into a musical\, and the result is an amalgamation of work that has been kept in motion through constant transformation. Through his bond with his young neighbor Sandy\, his foil in many ways\, the play asks what love looks like when words fail—and whether transformation (spoiler: into the body of his own cat\, “Miss Gloria”!) can be a kind of mercy; choosing what form of life you can bear. \nNora Butler – Nora Butler is a Brooklyn-based director with experience in contemporary\, classical\, and experimental theater (and opera!). She is thrilled to make her Boston Fringe Festival debut with her beloved friends. Both make sacrifices\, and one learns the rules of survival to find out what it means to be human. \nBIO\nAbhisek Bhattacharya is an immigrant playwright and performer (Asian Indian) who has been creating plays since he was in middle school in India. His plays span multiple genres\, from short comedy to full-length drama\, and irrespective of their external façade\, they always portray something relevant to the current social environment.\nHe is also the artistic director of Hattimatim-Team\, Inc.\, a small theatre company in Maryland that develops new\, unpublished work by new and emerging playwrights. The company provides opportunities to artists from the community with minimal stage experience. Through his bond with his young neighbor Sandy\, his foil in many ways\, the play asks what love looks like when words fail—and whether transformation (spoiler: into the body of his own cat\, “Miss Gloria”!) can be a kind of mercy; choosing what form of life you can bear. \nNora Butler – Nora Butler is a Brooklyn-based director with experience in contemporary\, classical\, and experimental theater (and opera!). But while Prince Rama’s heroic exile and return made him the “ideal man”\, his wife Sita endured his trials alongside him\, while being kidnapped\, recovered\, and ultimately exiled again by her own\, her fidelity questioned despite her sacrifices. Sita is remembered as the ideal wife — her devotion proven through a literal trial by fire. \nBut what about the story of her resilience through loss? Sitayama reimagines her perspective through a concept concert\, unpacking her emotional journey with original Indian Americana songs rooted in mythology.
