DESCRIPTION:Experimental Sketch Workshop with Andy Miara\nIf you’re a sketch writer\, performer\, director or teacher who is interested in process\, experimentation and discovery\, this workshop is for you! This full day session will operate like a professional sketch rehearsal with a focus on material generation and productive exploration. Through writing\, improvisation and on-our-feet exercises\, we’ll play with a range of techniques to create material. Participants will leave with new creative tools\, and new ways to approach writing\, performing and developing sketch. Participants should have some prior experience with sketch comedy. A comfort with improvisation is a plus. Come ready to play and let’s see what we can make together! \nABOUT ANDY: Andy Miara is a former director for The Second City in Chicago where he also served as a core writing instructor in the Second City Training Center. He is a former head writer of The Onion News Network and co-creator of The Onion’s sister site\, Clickhole.com. Alongside Tim Robinson and Mark Raterman\, Miara co-founded the sketch group My Mans. The trio developed pilots for Comedy Central and Adult Swim\, and created The Thanksgiving House\, an immersive theater show in Los Angeles produced by Funny or Die and IFC. Miara has written on animated comedies including Robot Chicken and SuperMansion\, and has developed original projects with NBC\, TBS\, truTV\, and Cartoon Network. Most recently\, he co-wrote and directed the scripted audio series Get It To Dutch for iHeart Media\, and currently has an animated pilot in development at Fox starring Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong. It’s the situation. \nYou\, your partner(s)\, and imagination in the moment are the situation…. \nWe will be fooling around with written words\, using the Dynamics\, the Complicities\, the Clown Personas\, and the Tension States\, as a fruitful path for mining the physical and the fun. \nVery brief texts of Will Shakespeare & Sam Beckett will be supplied…. \nAnd you can bring your own. \nA monologue\, a scene\, a poem\, a manifesto. \nIt’s all grist\, darlin’. \nARTIST BIO: Over several decades\, Sheriden has acted under Actor’s Equity Contracts in the nation’s regional theatres. Starting in the 70’s\, playing ingénues for the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis to Boston’s Moonbox Productions\, garnering a Boston Critics Award for Kimberly in Kimberly Akimbo. \nRecently\, in film\, she played two old ladies. One in Tiffany Paulson’s About Fate and another in Eric Aronson’s Any Day Now about the Gardner Museum heist. It’s now streaming on Amazon Prime. \nSheriden has directed and taught acting at Cornell and Southern Methodist Universities. \nSince arriving in Boston\, she directed plays and readings for Another Country\, Queer Soup Productions\, and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. \nAs Senior Lecturer Emerita\, at Tufts University\, she taught a variety of acting courses including Advanced Acting Lab\, Shakespeare\, Mask\, Physical Comedy\, and Acting as Career. She directed a dozen plays\, concluding with an edited video of Jeffrey Hatcher’s delightfully\, silly adaptation of The Government Inspector. \nSheriden has directed professionally for the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas\, Mother Jones in Chicago\, Company Theatre in Los Angeles\, Manhattan Class\, and WOW Cafe in New York City.
